Reshaped Goals Amid The Pandemic

Reshaped Goals Amid The Pandemic

By: Beatriz Flores

COVID-19 has dramatically changed our daily lives. The manner we spend time with our friends, the means of how we go to work, even the basic things like the way we eat has needed a complete revamp. All aspects of our lives are different now, and that includes the way we plan. If months ago, all our plans are focused on the immediate now and the years ahead, and never the mid-term, they may have changed now. So, what lens should we use when viewing images of our hypothetical futures? What should be our priority in the coming months?

  1. Safe transportation

Public transportation is far from fully functional and it can also serve as a vehicle to further spread the virus.  Getting to the places we need to be is an unforeseen challenge. The convenience of constantly having trains, buses, and jeepneys was something that many took for granted.

When you buy a car (or your own mode of transportation), it doesn’t just ease the burden of figuring out how to go to point B from point A. It also guarantees you a more minimized risk of contracting the virus as you run essential errands for your family, provided that you follow all safety measures put in place by our health regulators. It beats booking a car from ride sharing apps. You have no idea how many people have sat in those seats, and how sanitized the driver keeps his vehicle. These are just some thoughts and worries that owning a car can ease. And during this time of crisis we all need one less thing to worry about.

  1. Building healing spaces

As ever, home is deemed the safest place to be with now and in the foreseeable future. COVID-19 is an invisible enemy that doesn’t let anyone get past its clutches. We should not be treating this virus like it’s nothing. To the best possible we can, we should fight it from the safety of our own homes.

It may appear that the more time you spend in your house, the more you realize that it’s time to make some do-over like fixing the wall in your kitchen, the leaky ceiling, repainting, etc.?  It is high time that we improve the physical spaces that we find internal solace in. And if you're entirely unhappy with the place you and your family are staying in right now, you can always consider moving. Choosing safety doesn’t mean you should give up comfort and happiness. If there’s something we need it’s all the positive energy we can get.

  1. Old family traditions to new businesses

Working from home has sent almost everyone some needed adjustments. After weeks or months of tweaking, it might be safe to assume that everyone has at least found their footing. It’s new but it sure beats getting attacked by waves of anxiousness every time you visit your office.

Aside from the safety factor, it’s also been amazing to be surrounded by family, getting to relive memories of the past together, and may have subsequently led to dreaming and planning businesses together. Whether it be sharing the product of your secret lasagna recipe to the world, or selling upcycled clothes that you have unearthed from your grandparents’ closets, these are all valid businesses that everyone should get the opportunity to explore during this time of crisis.
